Chelsea Connor is a herper from the Caribbean island of Dominica. She was inspired by nature shows she used to watch with her father as a kid and her island’s wide range of flora and fauna. Everything! I wanted to be a vet, an archaeologist, a paleontologist, marine biologist… Lawyer

18 What drives you and keeps you going?

Hope… Hope & spite. I can’t give up. My family is already so proud and I know I can do so much more & I’ve been told that I can’t so much that part of me is super driven by it now.

19 What got you excited in science?

I’ve always wanted to know how things work and I remember seeing a boa in our yard one day (B. c. nebulosa) because of superstitions someone had killed it and I had never been that close to one before. Opening its mouth and looking at its teeth! I thought all snakes had big fangs! Then I got to hold a live one and I need to know how those muscles worked and that was IT.

20 What excites you about science now?

Learning new things. I don’t know everything about anoles but you bet I’m gonna learn it all and I love sharing those things and seeing people get excited about it too. That feeling, that excitement, it’s contagious.

Regency romance novels

I can fold my tongue into a ‘W’.

Probably Ark: Survival Evolved. I have so many dinos and prehistoric beasties and I love them all.
