Tyus D. Williams is a wildlife ecologist with a niche focus in carnivore ecology, he is interested in utilizing spatial analytical methods to infer upon the movement patterns and landscape interactions of elusive predators within an ecosystem. Tyus finds that through unique inquiries and cutting-edge methods of research we can revolutionize conservation practices from understanding how predators influence fauna and ecosystem functionality. Currently, he is pursuing graduate school to obtain his PhD in Ecology!

I don’t have any personal pets now, but I grew up owning birds and even a pet rabbit!

I would be a Nat Geo Wildlife Photographer!

I feel like studying astrobiology or marine science would be exciting.

The Amazon, no doubt about it

12 Is there anything you strongly recommend we watch and/or read and/or listen to?

If you like thrillers, Silence of the Lambs is a must watch and I would recommend reading Jaguar by Alan Rabinowitz.

13 It’s your day off. What do you want to do?

I’ll either go hiking somewhere or spend the day rock climbing.

14 What are three things you can’t live without?

Anime, Mexican food, and the great outdoors.

15 What beverage gives you life?

Boba tea sustains my life force

16 What book did you read in school that positively shaped you?

I read a book called Siddhartha when I was in college that enlightened me greatly.

17 What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a biologist ever since I was a kid, nailed it! 🙂

18 What drives you and keeps you going?

Jeff Corwin was my hero growing up as a child and to attain the unprecedented mantle of being the only natural resource professional in the history of my family is revolutionary. I’m insatiably hungry for my personal success, but I ultimately think about the curly-headed kid just like me who is waiting for a role model to represent him and show that he can do it too.

19 What got you excited in science?

I was such as curious kid growing up, and watching Animal Planet and Discovery Channel showed me how vast the world was. I was just utterly captivated by the beauty of our planet and I was blown away that people could actually have career studying the marvels of nature.

20 What excites you about science now?

Science derives from the Latin word Scientia which means “to know”. We utilize science as a principle and foundation of design to make sense of the world that surrounds us. Science not only allows us to make newfound discoveries but it gives us the ability to understand the human self. This requires growth and a continuous introspection of our character to manifest the best ideas that will contribute to the intellectual merits of science. It’s exciting because growing as a person contributes to good science!

21 What is a guilty pleasure of yours?

I actually enjoy listening to ASMR *cringe*

22 What is a secret talent of yours?

I’m fairly good at poetry

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue

25 What is one of the best pieces of advice you’ve received?

Regardless of the all the chaos in the world and the judgement you receive from others, at the end of the day you have to deal with yourself and sit in your own silence. If you can look at yourself and proud of the work you have accomplished that’s all that matters.

26 What is something you’ve always wanted to try but you’ve been too scared to do?

Hike the Appalachian Trail entirely

27 What is the best advice for your 18 year old self?

You’re doing an incredible job, I know things seem hard but you’ve already accomplished some of your greatest goals in life. Keep fighting for your passions!

28 What is the best way to de-stress?

Eating a delicious meal and watching TV is the best

Probably animal bones

Siberian Tigers

I love the smell of fresh air laced with cedars and spruces in the Pacific Northwest.

I love how kind I am to people!

Graduating from college and achieving my childhood dream of becoming a wildlife biologist.

Probably a sequoia in the Redwoods

National forests in Georgia are relatively close in terms of distance which is nice.

I used to be a clothing model when I lived in California!
